SMVDU Organises One-Day Bioinformatic Workshop

Katra, Mar 31 : The School of Biotechnology at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with Dept. Of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, organised one-day Bioinformatics workshop on "Trends in Genomics and Proteomics", focused on the next generation sequencing and computational Proteomics aspects of Biotechnology. Prof. V. Verma, Coordinator and Head, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, emphasized on exploration of new fields of Biotechnology Research as a career opportunity to promote research and development in India. He also inspired researchers to take challenges to perform beyond their usual capabilities to excel. The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Akhlaq Bashir, a Dr. D. S. Kothari Fellow from Jammu University. On the onset, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Organizing Secretary of the Workshop and Senior Faculty, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, informed the participants about the scope of the workshop. The event was attended by in-house and out station delegates of reputed universities and institutes. Mr. PS Salathia, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, took a session on "Bioinformatics Approach in Immunology", followed by a technical hands-on to the participants by Ms. Sonali Verma and Supriya Hakeem. Parallel Sessions were also conducted during the hands-on training. Dr. Kumar expressed his gratitude to Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, for his support and motivation, and also thanked Professor V. Verma, Head, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, for encouraging him to organize the workshop.
