Govt High School Kuntwara has 5 teachers for 206 students

kishtwar, Mar 31: The lackadaisical approach of Education department towards providing adequate staff in rural and far flung areas of Kishtwar district can be gauged from the fact that Govt High School Kuntwara in the district has only five teachers including one ReT for 206 students from class 1st to 10th.
As per the details available with "Early Times", out of 14 sanctioned posts in the school, seven posts are vacant including the post of Headmaster since 2015.
Out of 2 posts of Master grade, one post is vacant while another post is being used for the drawl of salary, out of five posts, two posts are vacant while one post is being used for withdrawal of salary and similarly the posts of Junior Assistant, Lab Assistant and PET are also vacant.
Speaking to Early Times, Farooq Ahmed Sarpanch Shandri Panchayat said that the school was upgraded in the year 2004, but the staff required for the High School has never been provided. He said that only six rooms are available for the students in High School Kuntwara and management faces difficult time in accommodating the huge numbers of students in these six rooms.
He said there are 50 students are enrolled in this High School from 1st to 5th, 70 students from 6th to 8th and 70 students for class 9th and 10th added that the school goes through difficult time as and when any teacher applies for the leave.
He urged the Commissioner Secretary Education to enhance the staff strength in the school and provide more accommodation to the school.
Another local informed the Early Times that a Primary school in the area had student strength of 22, while 4 teachers are posted in the school since it is close to National Highway. He said that no senior officials even bothered to listen to the public grievances. He urged upon the Governor Satya Pal Malik to constitute a special team of senior officials with the directions to visit the area for preparing a comprehensive plan to address the issues pertaining to Kuntwara area of Kishtwar District.
