Doda villagers aghast over lack of basic amenities, Threaten to boycott polls

Doda, Mar 31: Several villages in Doda district are suffering for want of basic amneties including water, electricity, roads and education.
Some of the villages are Ramgarh, Kurmail, Kencha, Baggar. These villages in Assar block are just 15 kms from Batote, Ramban district and 40 kms from Doda headquarter. The villagers have decided to boycott forthcoming elections as a mark of protest.
Local sarpanch Mohd Ashraf said that, our first priority is construction of Ramgarh-Kurmail road for which hundreds of residents are suffering.
"In emergencies we have to reach national highway by foot carrying patients," he said adding recently government upgraded doznes of school but GHS Kurmail was neglected again. Our students have to go to Assar or Batote for 10+2 education," he said.
He said every MLA has committed to start early construction of road but after victory they simply vanish into thin air.
Another villager from Kencha said that the village is without proper electricity and all the wires are hanging on wooden poles and trees. He said Kencha village has maximum population of schedule caste and schedule tribe, and therefore, the authorities ignore them.
