Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9: Duel yardsticks of district election officers (DEOs) came into light, when Jammu Deputy Commissioner attached some officers in his office till the elections are over; the DCs elsewhere in the division are mum.
According to sources, following removal of several officers as BDOs by the administrative department, they knocked the doors of Courts and got relief. "In similar case some BDOs also got relief from the court, as they were allowed to join on their previous posts, however, due to model code of conduct (MCC), the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, who is also DEO attached two incharge BDOs in his office till the election process is completed", they said and added that however, in other district of Jammu the DCs did not bother to attach local officers in DEOs offices.
"Around a dozen incharge BDOs were removed by the department Rural Development and Panchyati Raj on different grounds. All of them knocked the door of courts to get stayed government orders of their removal", they said and added that the respective court's granted relief to them.
"They joined, on previous place of posting, certainly, being local they can influence the people as elections are scheduled for Jammu-Poonch and Udhmapur LS constituencies on April 11 and April 18 respectively", they said and added more than five BDOs in district Reasi, Kathua and Doda district of Udhampur constituency joined on their previous posts and atleast three BDOs in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu-Poonch constituency have joined after courts' order.
"Court's order should be implemented, but at the same when the MCC is in force for a particular time, the concerned DEOs should also ensure that it should not be violated", they added.
"Court orders are binding on all, if the officers are prevented from joining in Jammu, why not in other districts", they added.
