Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 12: In a recent incident of shooting, in which a person got serious bullet injuries which were fired by a youth at his residence on some altercation exhibit the highhandedness of the police department which failed to ensure the surrender of legal weapons during imposition of Model Code of Conduct in run-up to Lok Sabha elections in the State.
Pertinently, yesterday one Chaman Lal was seriously injured after he was fired upon by another person at village Tamore over an altercation between Chaman Lal and Hakeem Shokat Ali as result son of Shokat Chowdhary, Ali Aijaz fired upon Chaman Lal from his revolver.
Although the detail of license holder was handed over to the senior officials of the police department since the imposition of MCC in the State and it was the duty of concerned police stations to make sure that all legal weapons should be deposited by the holders within the specified time period.
"Yesterday's incident has brought the concerned police station under scanner taking directions while a man was shot and received three injuries and later shifted to GMC Jammu for further treatment," they said.
Sources in the department informed Early Times that police took time to seize the weapon of offence and it also came into light that the license of the revolver was issued from Kupwara district raising question how a person from Samba district managed to get the license from other districts which is a matter of investigation.
When contacted concerned SDPO Vijaypur Balijeet Singh said that that weapon of offence was confiscated and the accused was arrested but failed to share the details of license and its issuing authority because till date license has not been produced before the police. He also said that the investigation was going on.
