Early Times Report
BANDIPORA, Apr 13: A girl committed suicide after being allegedly raped by her father for several years in this north Kashmir district.
A top police official said that the girl, daughter of Wilayat Qureshi, of Challiwan Gojarpati in Aragam died after taking some poisonous substance at her home.
"The accused has been arrested and police has taken the dead body into its custody and medico-legal formalities are being conducted," the police official said.
He said a case FIR No. 4/2019 has been registered in PS-Aragam U/S 306,376,509 RPC.
The girl's sister has alleged that first her uncle Ayoub Qureshi used to have illicit relationship with her sister after which he sold her to someone. "Later my father did the same thing with my sister," she said.
"Once my father did the crime, he apologized to my elder sister and promised that he will not repeat the same. But he had been repeatedly raping her for years," said the younger daughter of Qureshi.
"We narrated the ordeal to our uncles who advised my sister not to make it an issue because they will be disrespected by the society. Later, my elder sister took some poisonous thing as she was forced to take such harsh step by my father. I reported the matter to police," said a the victim's sister.
She alleged that her uncles were trying to settle the issue without making it public, "but I girl stood up and spoke against all the odds despite knowing the consequences." She said that her uncles were taking her to unknown destination "may be for killing me, but somehow I managed to save myself."
"First I informed my paternal grandfather who said that it is better to kill the issue. After that I spoke to the villagers and one of my uncles Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi helped us and reported the matter to police," she said.
Yousuf Qureshi is the elder uncle of the victim. He said
his younger brother, father of the victim, was having an illicit relationship with his elder daughter from past 5-6 years.
