On voting day, Mehbooba other senior leaders to remain camped in Kulgam
Kulgam turnout to impact PDP's fate in south Kashmir
4/28/2019 10:43:30 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 28: Even as Kulgam district is set to go for poling in the second leg of elections for the Anantnag constituency seat of the Parliament, the Peoples Democratic Party is trying its level best to make more and more of their supporters to come out to cast vote from the area with over three lakh voters.
Sources said the PDP top leadership held a crucial meeting with party president Mehbooba Mufti in chair and resolved that voting in Kulgam would be "crucial for them."
Sources said the meeting told that voter turnout in Anantnag district has pressed the panic button for the party as it apprehends that Congress may have taken lead in the first leg of elections.
Sources said the meeting told the leaders from south Kashmir that if voter turnout remains as it was during the first leg, than PDP was about to be defeated. Sources said the party leaders are in contact with the supporters of Jamaat E Islami and are trying to convince them to come out and cast vote.
It is pertinent to mention that the PDP has been openly supporting Jamaat and has promised to get the ban revoked if the party comes to power.
Sources said apart from the Jamaat, the PDP is in contact with the supporters of the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and want them to come out and cast vote for the PDP.
"Basically the voter turnout can be favorable for the PDP only when the Jamaat and the JKLF supporters take lead to come out to cast vote because only such voters can make others follow. Otherwise this party is in loss," said source on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said Mehbooba Mufti would and her party leaders would stay stationed in the Kulgam district on the polling day to personally monitor the developments.
"During voting in Anantnag, the senior leaders had come out late but this time they will be active since morning," said a source. Despite repeated attempts the PDP leaders couldn't be contact for comments.
