Cong praising Yasin, Jinnah triggers a fierce debate
2019 General Elections
4/28/2019 11:40:55 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 28: Something has gone wrong with the Congress, India's oldest political party that was set up by Britons in December 1885 at Bombay. The 2019 General Elections were an opportunity for the Congress to learn from its 2014 massive defeat and win over the hearts of the electorate by adopting planks which bulk of the nation holds very dear, but it has instead decided to commit the same mistakes it committed in 2014, which reduced it to the status of 44 in the Lok Sabha.
That the Congress is not appreciating the nation's mood and that it is in a self-destruct mode became clear from what the right hand man of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi PC Chacko and the Congress candidate from Patna Sahib (Bihar) actor Shatrughan Sinha said about terrorist, murderer and separatist Yasin Malik and Mohammad Ali Jinnah (founder of Pakistan)
Senior Congress leader PC Chacko praised Yasin Malik for his 'courage' against the Government of India. "Malik should be 'appreciated' for the 'courage' he has shown in front of the government because New Delhi cannot threaten anybody," Chacko said trigger a fierce debate across the nation and giving a handle to its opponents to beat it and paint it pro-Pakistan and pro-separatist.
The chief of banned outfit Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Yasin Malik, has been sent to a judicial custody till 24 May on charges of terror funding and money laundering. He is being kept at Delhi's Tihar jail.
Sinha, on the other hand, not once but twice in two days hailed Jinnah, called him part of the Congress family and claimed that Jinnah had also participated in the India's freedom struggle.
Addressing election rallies at Chindwara in Madhya Pradesh and Patna Sahib, Shatrughan Sinha, who joined the Congress after quitting the BJP, called Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah a part of the Congress family, and lauded him for his 'role' in India's independence.
"The Congress family, from Mahatma Gandhi to Sardar Patel to Mohammad Ali Jinnah to Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. It is their party. They had the most important role in development and freedom of the country. This is the reason why I have come here (in Congress)," Sinha said in Hindi" at an election rally in Chindwara".
At the said rally, Sinha was campaigning for Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath, who is contesting in the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress party candidate from the Chhindwara parliamentary constituency.
Sinha who himself is contesting the elections from Bihar's Patna Sahib on a Congress ticket, made similar claim in Bihar.
Convinced that he had committed a blunder, Sinha on Sunday clarified that he wanted to name Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and he never wanted to name Jinnah. He said it was a slip of tongue that he named Jinnah. His clarification carried no weight as he hailed and praised Jinnah not once but twice in 48 hours.
