Low polling percentage speaks of deceit of politicians and strength of separatists
4/28/2019 11:08:23 PM
If the National Conference leadership describes low turn out of voters in Anantnag as a mark of deceit for any political party. Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister, snbs Mehbooba Mufti for her ceceitful nature which affected voting percentage. But what about Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency where none other than National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah was a candidate. The Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency witnessed 14.1 per cent against 13.69 in Anantnag. This way Farooq has not been able to ret ain his charisma among the voters in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat and the same is applicable to Mehbooba Mufti because she was turned down from her home area. National Conference Vice President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah has said the lower turnout in the first phase of the Anantnag parliamentary seat was a lesson for every party that "politics of deceit and selfishness" would not work anymore.
He has talked to the media persons on the sidelines of campaign rallies in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, the NC vice president said the lower turnout in Anantnag was a wakeup call not just for New Delhi but for the Peoples Democratic Party as well. What about Srinagar seat? If Omar says that the low turnout of voters in Anantnag was a wakeup call for New Delhi why should not he treat poor percentage of polling in Srinagar a wakeup call for New Delhi and for the National Conference ?"People in the Valley are angry over the policies followed in the past five years in Kashmir," he said. "Never in my life have I seen such dismay and helplessness among people as I witnessed during the past some time."
Omar said many pockets in south Kashmir had not voted due to the anger against the "oppressive policies". He said there was a visible disenchantment and anger that had kept the voters away from polling booths in the first phase of polling for the Anantnag parliament seat. "I appeal to people not to express their anger by not voting. Instead, they should come out and vote for a candidate who can raise their voice in the parliament," Omar said.
He said the fight for the Anantnag parliamentary seat was squarely between the Congress and the NC as people had already rejected the PDP. If Srinagar seat has witnessed low turnout of voters it means that people have rejected Dr Farooq Abdullah's policies of siding with the separatists on one time and praising India on the other occasion.
