Don't politicize Kheer Bhawani yatra'

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 10: The yatris in Kheer Bhawani, Tulmulla in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir today criticized the State administration for lack of facilities at the holy shrine on the occasion of Kheer Bhawani Mela. The pilgrims who reached the shrine since yesterday from different parts of the country and Jammu were dismayed over the failure of Government and Darmarath Trust which manages the holy shrine for their failure in making elaborate arrangements of boarding and lodging for the pilgrims. They said that total insanitation prevails around the shrine and there is no proper provision for toilets and urinals in the area. Large number of yatris had to sleep on pavements, staircases under the shade of Chinar trees due to lack of accommodation facilities. Poshkar Nath Koul, a prominent citizen said that renovation and cleanliness of shrine started yesterday after the yatris reached here. He said that despite the Government was in know of that thousands of pilgrims will participate in Mela Kheer Bhawani they failed to take preemptive measures to provide facilities to the yatris. Same allegations were levelled by Badri Nath Pandita, another pilgrim from Jammu who said that Government was misleading the Kashmiri Pandits in the name of arrangements while nothing is visible on ground at holy shrine. Desh Ratan Pandita, President, All India Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AIMCCC) alleged that despite the assurance of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and other authorities that only up convoy will be allowed on National Highway from Jammu on June 9, the down convoy from Srinagar was also allowed resulting in huge traffic jams on National Highway and yatri convoy remained stranded for hours together in the way. They reached 11:30 in the night to Tulmulla and this way suffered a lot. Moreover there were no proper arrangements at the shrine and the claims of the authorities in this regard were total hollow. Ratan accused political parties of politicizing the Kheer Bhawani yatra and misleading the people on this account. He demanded that this practice should be avoided in future and yatra should be made a religious function only.
