Early Times Report
Jammu, June 29: Strongly criticizing Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party for shattering hopes of the people of Jammu, the residents of Friends Colony of Trikuta Nagar Extension alleged that things have gone from bad to worse during the past one decade.
The residents of the Friends Colony told Editor Early Times Munish Gupta about various issues being confronted by them during his mass contact programme, who would be contesting assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency.
"The cleanliness of drains has remained major issue in the area. They remain blocked for not proper cleaning by the authority concern. At times nobody visits even after two weeks of times due to which the dirty water of drains remain stagnant giving birth to mosquitoes particularly in summer season. Due to lack of slope of drains, water remains stagnant and overflows and the situation gets more serious during rainy season," said Sham Sahani, Shashi Kundal, Neha, Gulshan Gupta , Sandhu Rani, Babu Ram, Sonu Choudhary, BB Jinsi and Ramesh Chander residents of Friends Colony. "There is serious blockage of drains in front of our house as the drain has not been given slope. The concerned officials visited the spot many times and assured to resolve it but nothing was done on ground," said Neelam Sharma.
"The lane backside of our residential houses has not been completed and the tile works was left midway by the concerned councillor, who had promised during Local bodies' elections campaign. The weeds have grown in entire lane, nobody comes to clean them. We tried to contact the concerned councillor in this connection but he remained inaccessible," Dr VK Koul.
Street lights are not working and lying out of order, numbers of complaints have been lodged but nothing happened. At some places street light have not been working for the last many months. "The power cables of street lights were laid down since ago but never made functional due to which streets plunge into dark in the night. Moreover the power fluctuation has aggravated the situation during peak summer. It has been 3-4 month the road was black topped in some part of area of the colony but macadam has started going off the road due to substandard material used on it," alleged Vibha Sahani and Subash Chander.
Expressing displeasure over the sanitation issue, Ashok Khokhar said the garbage remains unattended for days and continues to pile up giving pathetic view of the area. Coming down heavily against the BJP, OP Angurana said things have gone from bad to worse during the past one decade. The Congress and BJP have shattered hopes of the people of Jammu. Garbage has become menace in the area as nobody comes to collect it, he added.
The PHE water supply doesn't come regularly. At time we receive supply after 3-4 days that too for very short period of time. The employee deployed at the water station doesn't release supply on time and reduce its flow due to which water doesn't reach at tail end houses, said Pawan Gupta and Bishan Lal Lochan.
"We want holistic development of the colony but the local representative doesn't pay heed to our grievances. The roads of the Colony are in totally dilapidated conditions. Poor sanitation, blocked drains have become headache for the residents. The local leader hardly pay visit in the area to take stock of the problems. Road are totally dilapidated. Huge potholes have developed and no slope has been given to the road due to which road get water logged during rains," said Reena Basson, Umesh, Sunil Choudhary, Anoop Sharma, Urmil, Karan Singh and Hardeep Singh.
Criticising lacklustre attitude of the PDD, Taniya resident of Friends Colony said, "PDD is very irresponsible in its duties. Some time ago, the power cables were broken in the our lane but the department didn't fix it for days despite several complaints."
