Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 3: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) President SubashShastri today appealed to Union Finance Minister to announce the release of pending installment of 5 per cent DA due from July 1, 2019 in favour of the employees and pensioners of the Centre as well as the State Governments in view of price hike of essential commodities and announcement in this regard be made in the parliament while presenting Union Budget 2019-20 on July 5.
In a memorandum sent to the Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister, Shastri said prices of all essential commodities have gone up so there was no justification on the part of the Central Government for withholding this instalment for their employees and pensioners.
Shastri said the price index, which was 5.89 per cent in December 31, 2018, stands at 10.59 per cent in June 30, 2019.
He further appealed Finance Minister to immediately accept the recommendation of the committee headed by Ashok Lavasa in which it recommended minimum pay scale of the lower class employees to Rs 21,000 per month. Shastri hoped that Central Government will accept this recommendation of the committee at the earliest.
Shastri also urged Finance Minister to declare Jammu and Srinagar as A-1 cities of the state. Giving A-1 status to both capital cities would ensure more flow of funds for upgrading infrastructures and modernizing civic amenities of these fast expanding cities, he added.
He said since cost of living has also increased in Srinagar and Jammu, it will benefit salaried class with increasing house rent allowance (HRA) and compensatory city allowance (CCA).
Shastri also demanded enhancement of the wages of daily rated workers to Rs 500 per day.
