Senior party leader faces sedition charges, Magistrate forwards complaint to SSP
After biting dust in LS polls, PDP struggles to survive

Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 3: Peoples Democratic Party has vanished from the political arena of Kashmir after biting dust in the recently held parliamentary elections. The party lost all three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The PDP leaders seem to have realized that talking in the language of the separatists is not helping their cause anymore as they have been rejected by the people as well as the leaders sitting in the national capital. The party, which had emerged as an alternative for National Conference in J&K stands decimated today."
He said that a complaint against the senior PDP leader over "seditious" statement earlier this year has been forwarded by the Jammu district magistrate to a senior police officer for examination and necessary action as warranted by the law.
"The complaint seeking action against the PDP leader for seditious statement on the national flag, which represents the national honour, and threat of 1947-like violence erupting in the state if Article 35A is repealed, has been forwarded to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Jammu," the analyst said.
He said, "The PDP leaders in the past had developed a habit of indulging in anti-national rhetoric and used to leave no chance to appease the separatists and their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC). It seems now the time has come for them to pay for their misdeeds."
An observer said, "The PDP leaders during their tenure went out of way to favour the militants and the stone-pelters. Nearly 10,000 stone-pelters were given general amnesty while the incentive for the terrorists who would surrender was increased manifolds."
He said that "security agencies were not even allowed to operate freely and the security forces were pressurized by the politicians to catch the militants alive. The PDP did lot of damage to the national interests during its rule. The PDP leaders were under the illusion that they would rule J&K forever by being soft towards the terrorists and their sympathizers."
A Kashmir watcher said, "PDP leaders were reaping what they had sown. They had created an illusion that Kashmir is burning and holding talks with terrorists and Pakistan is imperative to restore normalcy in Kashmir. They had even created a notion that elections can't be held in Kashmir till the terrorists and their bosses give their nod. However, time has proved them wrong and they are struggling to remain relevant in the changing political scenario."
