| Jambu Zoo project be implemented in letter and spirit: Ch. Lal Singh | | |
Jammu:
DSSP Chairman and Former Minister Ch. Lal Singh while inaugurating Bhandara for Amarnath pilgrims at Bali Nala Udhampur, expressed happiness on the release of funds for the Jambu Zoo which was hanging since my resignation from the department. But, its unfortunate that the original cast of the project has been reduced to 50 percent , which needs immediate attention of the Administration. While addressing the gathering Ch Lal Singh said that i9nitially an area of approximately 163.42 hectare of land was transferred to Wildlife Department at the location of just 8 kilometers from Jammu City on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and on way to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. He told the gathering that the estimated cost of the project was Rs 120 Cr and the project is to be completed by December, 2020. DSSP shall take up the issue with the Governor for the complete implementation of the project. Jambu Zoo was contemplated to boost the economy of Jammu province and to give fillip to the tourism in the province, particularly to show case the rich cultural heritage of Dogras. It would have been a game changer for the entire state and would have ensure boost the traditional pilgrimage of both Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amar Nath.
Ch Lal Singh said that the work on the project was earlier initiated by the Wildlife Department through and the work was running successfully but the work was stopped due to change in guards and the funding was also stopped by the Government because it was the heritage project of the Jammu and would have been boosted the economy of Jammu. Ch Lal Singh also appealed the Governor of J and K to allocate the funds which was proposed at the initiation of the project. He further said that Zoo was the biggest in Asia and was aimed to save the natural habitat and variety of species which were at the brink of extinction . The very name of the Zoo after the name of Jambu also reminds of the rich cultural heritage of Dogras where Lion and Goat have lived together which symbolizes the composite culture of Dogras where everyone lived together irrespective of any caste, creed, and religion.
