Dilapidated roads greet visitors in Narwal Bala

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 27: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta who would be contesting upcoming assembly election from Gandhi Nagar Constituency as an independent candidate, on Saturday conducted his tour in Narwal Bala area of block Satwari as part of his mass contact programme.
Munish met people from different walks of life and listened to their problems patiently and assured them that their civic problems would be addressed on priority basis after he wins the election.
The residents of Narwal Bala castigated the role of successive MLAs from both BJP and Congress who represented the Gandhi Nagar constituency in past and said that everyone overlooked their basic amenities. "They come here only to get vote, but after getting elected they forget us. Dilapidated roads, uprooted lanes and by lanes, clogged drainage system, and littered garbage is proof of their (MLAs) performance. They have only focussed on posh area of Gandhi Nagar", said Moni Devi.
Devi said that "our lanes were tiled on the orders of former MLA Kavinder Gupta under Constituency Development Funds of 2016-17 and inaugurated by him in year 2018, but the lanes have been uprooted and the manholes developed on it, posing threat to walkers. The uprooted lanes issue was brought into the notice of former MLA during a public meeting and people demanded action against the contractor who constructed the lane under CDF, but he done nothing so far", said Bharat Bhushan.
Bharat Bhushan further said that due to absence of a dustbins, the residents have to dump garbage just in front of their gates. "Foul smell as well as stray dogs and animals which consumes garbage have made our lives miserable," he said.
Sunil Kumar, resident of Harijan Mohalla informed Munish Gupta that few lanes were constructed in the area. But in just three days, the rain water damaged the lanes and at some places the newly constructed lane is submerged which shows the quality of the work done by department concerned.
"Water supply is so irregular that some lanes enjoy water supply twice a day and we get water supply after three days, that too for hardly 30 minutes. And most of time when supply comes, the electricity remains off, with the result water does not reach the people", said Usha Devi.
Jyoti Devi w/o of Anil Kumar and Sheetal D/o of Kamal Kumar are some residents who informed Munish Gupta how they repeatedly applied for getting registered in electoral list, but each times their names were not mentioned in list. From past two elections (Lok Sabha and assembly elections of 2014), they have been deprived of their right to franchise.
