SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Four Jaish-e Mohammad (JeM) outfit militants have been killed in two separate encounters in Shopian and Sopore townships in last 24 hours.
According to a police spokesperson encounter between militants and security forces erupted in Panduchan area of District Shopian, the hiding militants fired upon the search parties and the fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the exchange of gun fire, two militants were killed who were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat resident of Wachi, and another militant as Zeenat ul Islam Naikoo.
The killed militants as per police records were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit HM and was wanted by law for his complicity in series of terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.
According to the police records, killed militant was part of group involved in planning & executing series of terror attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities.
Several terror crime cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 25/2019 of P/S Zainapora pertaining to killing of a civilian namely Irfan Hameed Lone.
Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.
While as the body of Zeenat ul Islam Naikoo has been recovered and the body was handed over to his family last night.
Zeenat Naikoo was the most important local militant of Jaish e Mohammad in Shopian. He played the role of local anchor to the Jaish foreign militants. He was involved in various incidents of violence including cop killing, firing and grenade lobbing on Police Station Shopian and Gagren Camp. Police has registered a case vide FIR No 281/2018 of PS Shopian on 29.08.2018. Meanwhile two Jaish-e Mohammad militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Sopore area.
A top police official told early times that, yesterday evening we had received an intelligence inputs about the presence of 2-3 unidentified militants in the area and after which cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched by a joint team of security forces in Malamapanpora village of Warpora area in the outskirts of Sopore town.
The killed militants were identified as Umer Shahbaz Wani R/O Kharpora Bandipora who had joined the militant ranks on June/2019 and since then was active with the terror operatives of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), while as another is said to be a foreigner from Pakistan code-named Khalid, sources informed.
According to police records, Khalid was part of groups involved in planning and executing a series of attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. Several crime cases were registered against him, sources added.
Here police said that a huge cache of incriminating material including arms and ammunitions were recovered from the encounter site, and the encounter has come to an end with the killing of two militants.
Police has registered a case vide FIR No: 52/2019 U/S 307/RPC, 7/27 I in Police Station Bomai and investigation taken up.
However police has requested citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
A top army official informed to early times that, four hardcore JeM militants have been killed in two separate encounters in Kashmir valley, and huge cache of sniper rifle, IED and mine with pak markings have been recovered from the site of encounters.
