SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Hours after embassies of the United Kingdom and Germany issued a travel advisory for its citizens, asking them refrain visit the Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Satya Pal Malik stated that tourists are his administration's responsibility and appealed the people no to panic to rumours. Malik even mentioned that there is no such of information regarding Article 35 A or 370 tinkering and asked people to get it confirmed with him on this.
Clearing the air on the security advisory, Malik said, as the news agency ANI quotes, "No tourist in J&K has ever been harassed, my message to people is to stay calm. Nothing drastic is going to happen to my knowledge, there is no need to fear. Political parties have their own problems as elections are near." Adding more, he said, "Lot of terrorists are sitting across the Line to cross here and most of them are suicide bombers. If something happens, that will have repercussions all over the country. We wanted to avoid that."
On the issue of political brewing in the Valley, Malik said. "I've talked to everybody in Delhi and nobody has given me any hint that we'll do this or that. Somebody's saying there'll be trifurcation, somebody says Article 35A, 370...Nobody has discussed these things with me either PM Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah."
With politics over the atmosphere of fear in Valley, the Governor said, "It's normal. Only rumour mongering is going on. It's a very routine thing here. If you sneeze at Lal Chowk, it becomes an explosion when it comes here. Unnecessary panic is being created by vested interests, especially some political parties." Malik added that both Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti met him and were satisfied. |
