Poetry Symposium organized at University of Jammu

Jammu, Aug 30: A poetry symposium Wings of Verse: A Multilingual Poetry Symposium was organized by the Centre for New Literature, Culture and Communication in the University of Jammu in collaboration with the Kunwar Vyogi Memorial Trust wherein Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar JU was the chief guest. In her address she congratulated the organizers for organizing such literary activities that provide platform to the students to showcase and groom their talent. Since a university education aims at holistic development of the young minds, such events become an integral part of its education. She further ensured that the University of Jammu shall always continue extending welcoming support for such activities. Earlier the programme commenced with the lightning of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries to the accompaniment of the Saraswati Vandana. This was followed by the formal welcome address by Prof. Dr. Monika Sethi, Head, Department of English who outlined the purpose and structure of the literary event. She stressed upon the importance of symposia, seminars and other literary activities and how they are a regular feature of the department and reiterated the commitment of the department in providing varied platforms to its students. Mr. Ayushman Jamwal representative of the KVMT further enlightened the audience about the activities of the Trust.
Students and scholars across departments of the University participated in the poetry symposium regaling the audience with an array of splendid poetry recitals in six languages that of Hindi, English, Urdu, Dogri, Gojri, and Punjabi. The event was moderated by Mr Ayushman Jamwal, a published poet himself who punctuated the symposium with his own compositions. This was followed by the recitation of the celebrated English sonnets of Kuwar Vyogi himself by the scholars of the English department.
Students who have achieved acclaim in cultural, literary as well as sports activities were also felicitated on the occasion. The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Ayushman Jamwal. Also present on the occasion were Prof. Satnam Kour Raina, Principal IMFA, Prof. Sucheta Pathania, Dr. Ravinder Singh, Dr. Sadaf Shah, Dr. Subhash Chander Sharma, Dr. Garima Gupta, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Dr. Pallavi Gupta, and Dr. Divya Sharma. The event was compered by Nazish Nawaz Wani.
