Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 30: Inordinate delay in release of funds by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway, four major road projects of Jammu region are stuck in papers only.
Sources informed that four major road projects including six laning of Kunjwani- Vijaypur (Spur to Jammu Airport). The project cost was announced Rs. 712 Crores for 23 kilometre distance and project was assigned to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) but due to lack of funds and inordinate delaying in release of funds to construction agency, the project is still in oblivion.
Besides, balance work in four laning of section NH-44 from Vijaypur to Kunjwani including Jammu bypass with worth of Rs 389.83 Crores for 32.2 km stretch, the project is allotted to same agency which is mentioned above, the project is still at Detail Project Report (DPR).
Sources further said that another project naming Value addition works on four lane of Lakhanpur Vijaypur setion from km16.250 to km 80 of NH-44 with worth of several crores is also stuck on papers only due to unknown reason.
While a road project from Domel-Katra-Reasi-Bhambla ( 82.17 km)and Tikri-Katra road (15km) was announced with fanfare by the previous coalition government of PDP-BJP and allocated funds for the projects was Rs. 97.17 Crores and construction works was allotted to state government construction agency Public Works Department (PWD) but ironically the project is still hanging in balance.
Another sources while wishing anonymity said that however, the agency concerned had raised the issue before the Union government for early release of allocated funds but unfortunately, the ministry concerned seems least bothered about it.
Moreover, an another ambitious project of Jammu namely construction of semi ring road in Jammu national highway, the work is going on at snail pace and only 17 percent work is executed so far while the NHAI agency set the date of completion as 07/01/2021.
