12/27/2019 10:30:46 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 27: Claiming that agricultural growth under the Narendra Modi government came down, the former minister Mula Ram alleged that it failed to keep its promises made with the farmers of the country of providing double income to them who are at the verge of starvation.
In the meeting held here on Thursday, the former minister expressed serious concern over the heavy losses of paddy due to recent rains resulting into 100 per cent loss of ready produce. He asserted that no assessment of losses have been worked out till now for giving them adequate compensation.
The former minister said that wherever the BJP is in power, be it the Central Government or the states, the farmers have been cheated with false and hollow promises. "How long will the Modi government lure them with political lollipops. Time has come for the Modi government to speak up and answer questions raised by farmers," he said. He emphasized that the Modi government came to power in 2014 with the promise fixing the minimum support price as well as compensation for damage crops.
The former minister alleged that the government is giving them mere assurances and false promises and "it seems PM Modi wants to build a 'Kisan-Mukth Bharat'."
Hari Singh Chib, President DCC Rural, in his address, said that there is great resentment among the farmers as till date no government authority has visited to th em to estimate the losses for compensation. He said that BJP leaders is meager busy in making statements while sitting at home as none of them had visited to farmers to know about their losses. He emphasized that farmers depend solely on crop for making their social needs of the family and society like education of children, marriages of their children, construction of their houses and other needs. This huge loss to crops has made farmers disgusted,” he added.
Chib appealed to the government to assess the losses being suffered by famers and give adequate compensation of minimum Rs 2000 per Kanal in a time bound manner.
Among others who were presented in the meeting included Rattan Lal, Tilak Raj, Ashok Kumar, Girdhari Lal, Kamal Singh, Swarn Singh, Raj Singh, Balbir Singh, Tripati Singh, Romesh Singh, Ashok Singh, and Parshotam Singh.
