NC makes Kamaal eat 'humble pie'
12/27/2019 11:11:06 PM

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 27: The National Conference has made its veteran politician Mustafa Kamaal apparently "eat a humble pie by cutting him to size" for his remarks that the NC would "not be part of any political process unless Article 370 is restored."
Recently Kamaal had said that NC would not take part in political process "until the restoration of Article 370 and statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interview to a news agency, Kamaal, who is also brother of detained former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah said that the NC will not be part of any political process that doesn't serve the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "They have demolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. We can't take part in any political process in this system," Kamaal had said.
The same day however, the National Conference came out with a statement that the NC had not authorized any of its party leaders to speak on behalf of the party unless the party patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and the party Vice-President Omar Abdullah are released from the detention.
"The National Conference has not authorized any indivisual leader to speak on behalf of the party. The leaders giving such statements are doing so only in their individual capacity. As the party has said earlier, the NC will discuss the road ahead once all party leaders under detention are released , including President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah," the NC statement said.
Sources in the NC said the party issued the statement only to give a "piece of mind to its leader who gave statements to media without taking the party leadership into confidence."
It is pertinent to mention that Dr Abdullah and this son Omar are among a few dozen politicians who were taken into custody after the abrogation of the special status on August 5, 2019.
Despite repeated attempts, Kamaal or other NC leaders were not available for comments.
