Panchayat members, councilors to be 'VIPs'
SK Stadium to host main R-Day celebrations in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Unlike the traditional venue Bakshi Stadium, main Republic Day celebrations will again be held at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Srinagar.
Since 2017, government has been celebrating January 26 and August 15 celebrations at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar instead the traditional venue at Bakhsi Stadium, where the repairing works are going.
An official at DC Srinagar office said that councilors, Panches, Sarpanches and chairperson of block development councils would be invited from Srinagar to attend celebrations at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Srinagar while others would attend in their respective districts. "These all fall in the VIP category," the official said.
As per official documents, district development commissioner Srinagar has been directed to prepare a list of invitees.
"Invitees shall included VVIP and VIPs including chairperson BDCs, Panches, Sarpanches and councilors," the document reads.
Police and security agencies have been directed to ensure adequate and fool proof security arrangements in and around the venue.
"An extensive plan shall be prepared by police department encompassing vital areas, movements and entries. Firm barricades should be erected in and around the venue taking into consideration the security concerns," the document reads.
A senior official said that security would be strengthened in Srinagar's Lal Chowk, Rajbagh, Dal Gate and Sonawar areas. "The security agencies have been directed to take extra measures this time," the official said.
The official said that road from AIR Srinagar to Sonawar road would remain closed for few days before the January 26.
The SSP security has been directed to ensure arrangement of bullet proof kiosk for VIPs along with dais.
The elections for urban local bodies were held for 79 urban local bodies while 1145 councilors were elected. Similarly, elections were conducted for 4483 Panchayats with a Sarpanch for each Panchayat Halqa and 35029 Panchs.
The government also directed all top officials to ensure attendance of employees in their departments at the functions.
