Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 28 : Celebrating 135th Foundation day of the party on Saturday, the Congress took out an impressive flag march in the city observing the day as "save constitution ? save nation".
Led by JKPCC president G A Mir, a large Congress number of Congress leaders and activists marched from headquarters towards Indira Chowk passing through Residency road, Denis Gate Raghunath Bazar Chowk, Hari Market and culminated at Indira Gandhi Statue Chowk, near SMGS Hospital.
All senior leaders of the party, including PCC functionaries, former Ministers, Ex-Legislators, leaders of DCC and frontal wings of the party, Corporators, BDC Chairpersons and other prominent leaders of the party joined the flag march in large numbers, carrying national flags and party flags.
They carried the posters of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar with slogans of ''Save Constitution ? Save India.''
Earlier Mir hoisted the party flag at Shaheedi Chowk in front of Congress HQ.
The activists of Congress Seva Dal and DCC Jammu held the flag hoisting ceremony and national Anthem was sung on the occasion.
The activists and leaders read out the Preamble of the Constitution of India on the occasion and reiterated the pledge of the Congress party to the ideals and the foundation values of the Constitution. PCC chief, while addressing the gathering, cautioned against attempts to trample the constitutional values by the present BJP Government by its authoritarian and undemocratic actions which weaken the basic spirit of the constitution and the principle of unity in diversity as laid down by the founding forefathers.
He said, ''The unity of the nation lies in the spirit of valuing our diversity in the pluralistic Indian society and by enacting discriminatory laws like CAA, the BJP is devaluing our constitutional mandate and weakening the basic strength of the nation''.
Mir said that party would launch vigorous awareness programmes through peaceful means of Mahatma Gandhi to educate the masses about need to follow the foundational values of the constitution and the country.
