Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 2 : Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Short Message Service (SMS) has been restored while other Cellular companies are yet to resume the facility to their subscribers in Kashmir valley.
The broadband internet of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Government hospitals was also yet to resume in the Kashmir valley since August 5.
Spokesperson of Union Territory (UT) Jammu and Kashmir Rohit Kansal had announced in Jammu on December 31 that SMS and broadband service in Government hospitals will be resumed from midnight.
The BSNL had restored SMS service and post-paid subscribers were seen sending new year greeting messages to each other. However, other Cellular companies have yet to restore the SMS service to their subscribers.
The broadband service also has not been restored in Government hospitals as announced by Mr Kansal.
All communication network, including landline, mobile and internet, was suspended in Jammu and Kashmir hours before the special status was scrapped on August 5. However, landline, mobile and broadband internet service were resumed in Jammu and Ladakh after some days. Mobile internet was also resumed in Jammu before again snapping the facility after few hours as a precautionary measure.
People in the Kashmir valley were not so lucky and only landlines were restored after about a month. It later took about three months to resume post paid mobile services though pre-paid mobile and internet service remained suspended.
Suspension of internet facility badly hit student, mediapersons besides doctors and other professionals in the Kashmir valley. However, the government set up ''facilitation centres'' for students to file their forms for admission, examination and scholarship.
