Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 2: The students of Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel have to face wrath of hostile administration for raising allegations of corruption in hostel’s functioning as six of the students have been rusticated for some unknown complaints.
According to the students of Gujjar Bakerwal PG hostel behind Commerce College, they had started raising voice against the hostel’s menue in the first week of November. The students were of the view that the Tribal Ministry has been sending Rs. 100 per day for each student but the food provided to them was not good and had alleged large scale corruption in the affairs of hostels.
In the third week of November, one of student was rusticated, following which, several students mostly the inmates of hostel, had lodged a protest demonstration by blocking the Science College road but were lathi charged by the police.
On the next day, the students of Jammu University had come in support of the gullible inmates of the hostels, after which Advisor as well as senior police officials had pacified them by giving assurance to take action. “There is large scale corruption in the hostels and most of the wardens are actually teachers but have become wardens and have been overstaying there”, the protesters had alleged.
Pertinently, an RTI activist Showkat Ali Khatana of Udhampur had also levelled serious allegations of corruption in Gujjar Bakerwal advisory board in the year 2018, in which he had alleged that the then officials have been overstaying and one official had withdrawn bills to the tune of over several lakhs against his own car.
The activist had also alleged that relatives of several wardens were also appointed on various posts through backdoor channels and several class fourth employees were also engaged in total violation of the norms but no action was taken.
Similar is the case with these students, whose allegations have remained under carpet but they have to face the brunt of hostile administration, which has rusticated six students at a time, when their exams have been going on.
Secretary of Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board Mukhtar Ahmed said that action has been taken against the students for disturbing law and order situation. “Even their demands have been considered but still they were agitating and recently the Girls of another hostel starting raising voice”, Ahmed said.
On being asked if raising voice peacefully is not permitted here, he said that action was taken on instructions of higher ups.
Secretary to Government Abdul Majid Bhat said that the decision was taken as per orders issued by Advisor as several allegations were against these students.
It is still unknown as who is the complainant against these students, and why the allegations of the students have not been enquired upon, the students said, adding that why so far action was not taken against the officials, who have been overstaying and the wardens, who were actually teachers and have amassed huge property by various means.
