Secy Law reviews pending contempt matters

Jammu, Jan 16: Secretary Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department, Achal Sethi, chaired a meeting to review the court cases including contempt matters pending before the Courts here today.
Special Secretaries, Law Department, Manoj Pandita, Fayaz Ahmed, Afroz Mir; Director Litigation Jammu, Villy Koul besides Law and Field Officers of all the Administrative Departments were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, all the Law Officers posted in different departments were enjoined upon to vigorously contest the cases filed against the Government and have a special attention for contempt matters as well.
It was further impressed that the objections and replies shall be filed without any delay and the statement of facts in contempt petitions shall also be filed with promptitude.
A special focus was laid on PIL matters in which development and financial issues are involved. Law and Field Officers gave suggestions regarding further improvement in the system besides highlighting issues which lead to pendency of court cases. All the Law Officers and senior officers were enjoined upon that no court cases should go unrepresented and every endeavour should be made to avoid passing of adverse orders against the government functionaries.
Law Secretary informed that steps have been taken to roll out e-monitoring of litigation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which shall go a long way in further streamlining of the system.
