Helpless Kashmir centric leaders have nowhere to go
Ones who dictated terms to Centre for 70 yrs turn irrelevant

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 16: There seem to be no light at end of the tunnel for Kashmir centric leaders, who were detained on or August 5, when Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided the erstwhile State into two union territories.
Three former chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are serving detention at different places, while more than 25 politicians are detained at MLA Hostel in Srinagar.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Kashmiri politicians, who dictated terms to Centre for the past seven decades are looking so helpless today. No one wants to listen to them. Even the people, whom they claimed to represent, have not come out to seek their release.”
He said that the possibilities of these leaders, especially the three former chief ministers, being released look bleak as the Government of India during the past five months has made it clear that no one in Kashmir can dictate terms and the ones who want to do politics will have to fall in line and remain loyal to the country.
An observer said, “The detention of three former J&K chief ministers is all set to get prolonged. Detaining Kashmir centric leaders, has led to situation in the Valley remaining peaceful as there has been no instigation from any side.”
He said, “Shifting of Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah to other places in Srinagar is a direct hint that they will have to remain in confinement till Kashmir becomes completely normal. For time being it looks like that their troubles won’t end.”
Referring to the statement of senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh that provocative statements by Mehbooba Mufti led to GoI detaining the mainstream leaders, the observer said, “After BJP pulled out from the PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti left no opportunity to target the Centre. Her statement on National Flag and more Yasin Maliks and Salahuddins will be born had triggered furore across the country. Omar in order to compete with Mehbooba issued certain statements which went against the national interests. Farooq Abdullah on many occasions said that India can never retrieve Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Soon after the August 5, 2019 decision of the GoI, senior Abdullah came out from his Gupkar residence and screamed at the top of his voice his people will come out and burn everything. Many things have gone against these politicians, who despite all the privileges and facilities provided by the GoI kept on raking up controversies.”
