Foot paths grabbed by shopkeepers at Gole Market, authorities unmoved
1/16/2020 11:06:07 PM
ASHWANI SHARMA
EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Jan 16: The footpaths at the sides of road in the busy Gole Market area here are grabbed by the shopkeepers. The shop owners have placed their saleable commodities on these footpaths leaving no place for pedestrians to walk.
Footpaths are encroached by some influential shopkeepers to such an extent that there is hardly space left for the walkers to move, however, the authorities concerned are acting as mute spectators as they hardy take any action against such offenders, who openly grabbed the footpath by using wooden boards and placing their saleable commodities.
“There is heavy traffic on road but still the pedestrians are forces to walk on the road itself as there is no place on footpath to walk over,” Sahil, an ex-serviceman told this reporter.
A housewife Sarita said that if one asks the shopkeepers to leave some place to walk, they start misbehaving and use abusive language but district administration has failed to use anti- encroachment drive against these shopkeepers who grabbed the footpath.
A retired teacher said that the responsible Udhampur Municipal Council is paying no heed towards this and is only lifting petty vendors for violations.
Locals have appealed to the DDC Udhampur to look into the matter personally and take strict actions against footpath grabbers as well as concerned authorities who were sheltering the encroachers.
