Early Times Report

BARAMULLA (Uri), Jan 16: Despite the fact that Union government is spending huge amount on various developmental projects, but government has failed to provide basic facilities at various hospitals across the Kashmir valley especially health block of Boniyar in this north Kashmir district.
Sources said that, Boniyar Block caters almost 80-90 thousand population on an average basis, where as Public Health Center (PHC) Boniyar also caters 6895 population, and keeping the population ratio in consideration, government should have made all facilities available for the residents of this border area.
There is no Ultrasonography (USG) machine and X-Ray machine is outdated, while as there is a requirement of digital X-Ray, and PHC is also lacking of some advanced facilities due to which the residents of border areas suffer badly, sources informed early times.
They said that, 13 posts of doctors were sanctioned for Block Boniyar that are working at different health centers, including NTPHCs, two posts are in position among which there are 4 Medical Officers including Block Medical Officer, Boniyar, while as one post of Medical Officer is still lying vacant.
Block Boniyar falls in between of Sheeri and Uri towns, and fact of the matter is that a huge population from adjoining areas visits here on daily basis for different treatments, but the indifferent approach from the government disappoints them as PHC Boniyar lacks of high tech facilities in the modern era, said sources.
Sources went on saying that, this (PHC-Boniyar) is 10 beds hospital, there remains a huge rush of patients and most probably more than 200 different patients are treated on daily basis in its Out Patient Department (OPD) and more than 10 in its Indoor Patient Department (IPD).
A senior medical official while talking to ET confirmed that they are lacking of high tech machines and there are some posts that are still vacant, adding thirteen posts of Para-medical staff were sanctioned for this health center, among which 12 are in position and one is still lying vacant.
Pertinently there are 28 Sub-Centers, 05 New Type Public Health Centers (NTPHCs) and 03 Public Health Centers in Health Block of Boniyar of district Baramulla, the health official added.
Many times in the recent past, people have demanded for the status of Sub District Hospital (SDH) as this health block almost caters 80-90 thousands of souls, while as there are some SDHs in Kashmir that only caters 4-5 thousand of souls.
Unfortunately they got the status of SDHs, but PHC Boniyar is still PHC despite many promises from the successive regimes.
