New Delhi, Jan 16: National Investigation Agency (NIA) will officially take over the case of arrested and dismissed DSP Davinder Singh from Jammu and Kashmir Police soon and the related notification is likely to be issued in a day or two by the Union Home Ministry, an official in the government establishment said on Thursday.
NIA Director General YC Modi met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday in this connection and a probe team will be headed by an IG rank officer.
"It is a part of Standard Operative Procedure(SoP) that central probe agency sends a team for preliminary investigation for those cases which are likely to be handed over to NIA", the official said.
The NIA team is unable to reach the Qazigund police station in Kulgam district where the case has been registered due to heavy snowfall in the valley, the source also added.
Davinder Singh was arrested on January 11 for transporting two top Hizbul Mujahidin militants to Jammu.
Singh has been grilled by a joint team of J&K police, NIA,the Research and Analysis Wing(RAW) and Intelligence Bureau.
Once the case is officially handed over to NIA, the probe agency will re-register a case and start questioning him to find out his exact intention of ferrying the terrorists to Jammu.
On January 11, J&K cop intercepted a car at Mir Bazar before Jawahar tunnel in Jukham district and found that Singh was traveling to Jammu with two top Hizbul militants Naveed Babu and Asif Ahmad.
All were arrested and a case was lodged at Qazigund police station in Kulgam.
