Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 16: Ahead of the Republic Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said it averted a major attack ahead by busting a module of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit in Srinagar and arresting five of its operatives.
It said that huge expolsive material has been recovered from the five terror operatives.
“In a major success, the Srinagar Police busts Jaish Module. Two grenade blasts in Hazratbal area worked out. Major attack averted ahead of Republic Day,” Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a tweet.
According to police, they were also involved in a couple of grenade attacks in Srinagar.
On January 8, a grenade blast took place at Hubbak Crossing while a second grenade blast happened near Sir Syed Gate of Kashmir University on November 2019. Their involvement was found in both the cases, the police said.
“Those arrested are Aijaz Ahmed Sheikh of Sadarbal Hazratbal, Umar Hameed Sheikh of Asaar Colony Hazratbal, Imtiyaz Ahmed Chikla @ Imran of Asaar Colony Hazaratbal, Sahil Farooq Gojri of Ellahibagh Soura and Naseer Ahmed Mir of Sadarbal Hazratbal,” it added.
“Initial investigations revealed that the group was involved in enforcing a shutdown in Srinagar,” the DIG (central Kashmir) D.S. Virdi said.
Based on the disclosures made by the arrested men, searches were conducted in Srinagar which led to the recovery of arms and ammunition including gelatin sticks, explosives, detonators, arms, explosive body vests, batteries and nitric acid.
were also recovered.
Earlier this week, the Centre received intelligence report according to which around 300 terrorists, including some from Afghanistan, were undergoing training at launchpads in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The input shared with the government comes just three months after Indian Army launched a major artillery counter-offensive, targeting four such terror launchpads in the region’s Neelam Valley killing 6-10 Pakistani terrorists and soldiers.
Around 40 to 50 terror launchpads are currently functional in PoK with full and tacit support from Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan Army.
These terror pads are located in Neelam, Leepa and Tangdhar valleys in PoK near the Line of Control (LoC).
The report had further warned that these terrorists were planning to infiltrate into India to carry out major attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and other major cities.
Meanwhile, a high-level alert has been sounded in various Indian cities ahead of Republic Day on January 26 following the intelligence report.
