Train services suspended in Kashmir for security reasons | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 9: Train services were on Sunday suspended for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, due to a strike on the seventh death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar jail on this day in 2013. “We have suspended all the trains running into the valley after an advisory was received from the divisional administration and police,” official sources said. They said the railway department is acting on the advice of local administration since safety and security of the passengers and the railway staff and property was of utmost importance. Therefore, they said no train will run on the Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla line on the north Kashmir track. Similarly, they said train services will also remain suspended on the Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund line in south Kashmir to Banihal in the Jammu region. When the centre scrapped Article 370 on August 5 last year, train services remained suspended for security reasons for about 100 days. Train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley as it is economical, safe and fast against other modes of transport available to the people. |
