DySP allegedly harasses contractor for ‘ransom’
Illegally seized dumper without registration of case

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 9: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of J&K Police, posted in Dooru area of Anantnag district of Kashmir valley, is allegedly harassing a contractor for ransom, as the former seized dumper owned by latter from Dooru area on February 5 even though no case was registered in the matter till date.
Abid Hussain, a civil contractor, claimed that his dumper bearing registration number JK01AL-1709, parked outside the house of his in-laws in Dooru, has been illegally seized by the DySP Operations Dooru. “My vehicle was engaged for construction works of GDC building at Kalakote, in Rajouri district. On 4th of February 2020, I sent my vehicle to Kashmir for fixation of High-Security Registration Plate (HSNP) from RTO office Srinagar”, he said, adding that after finishing the works at RTO office Srinagar, my driver parked the dumper at Dooru on 5th of February.
“On the evening of 5th February 2020, the DySP seized the dumper claiming that it was a stolen vehicle. But no case has been registered yet”, he said, adding that he has a registration card (RC) issued by RTO Srinagar in my favour to expose the ill intentions of the officer. “I purchased the fresh vehicle and had sufficient documents to prove that there is nothing fishy which the DySP is claiming. If he (DySP) found any adverse thing then as per law he should register a case instead of sending me messages”, Abid said.
“He (DySP) contacted one of my friends and suggested him to settle the issue in exchange for a bribe. But, I will not pay a single penny for it. I have not committed anything wrong. If he found any violation of the law, he should register a case so that I can go to court to get my vehicle released”, he said.
“The DySP is busy in extortion to further raise his under-construction house, to date he has spent more than Rs 1.5 crores on his house, that too beyond his known sources of income. Being aware that he can implicate me and family in any fake case, I dared to expose his misdeeds. I appeal Lt Governor GC Murmu to take action against such black-sheep in uniform, who are bringing bad name for the entire Police Department”, he added.
Dy SP Operation, Dooru in his version said that the vehicle has been sized as part of ongoing verification. “We have undertaken verification in connection with various cases of stolen vehicles”, he added.
But contradicting DySP’s claim the complainant said if the vehicle has been seized for verification that along with all the documents including RC, insurance and sale letter etc, they should register a case or release it with any further delay.
However, when the case was taken up the IGP Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar he said, “I will enquire the matter, and accordingly further action will be taken.”
