Mehbooba’s separatist leanings were an ‘open secret’
PSA on her, Akhtar no surprise
2/9/2020 11:16:34 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 9: The PSA dossier of the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, mentions that “she was working with the separatists” and had leanings towards them.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The PSA dossier of Mehbooba indicates that her incarceration is not going to end soon. For her the road ahead is not going to be that easy.”
He said that soon after BJP pulled out from the Mehbooba Mufti led government in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, the former J&K Chief Minister took a “very aggressive stand.” “Her statement that if Delhi makes any attempt to break her party more Yasin Maliks and Salahuddins will be born had evoked sharp reactions from across the country. In fact voices to get her booked at that very point of time had become shriller,” the analyst said.
He said that during her tenure as the Chief Minister, there was tremendous increase in the number of stone pelting incidents and in fact the “militancy got revived” during that period. “Mehbooba compelled Centre to announce unilateral ceasefire in 2018. The one month long truce allowed the terrorists to regroup and carryout dare devil strikes, like the one which was carried out in heart of the Srinagar city in which Editor Rising Kashmir, Shujaat Bukhari, and his two security guards were killed,” the analyst added.
He said that Mehbooba announcing amnesty for 10,000 stone pelters antagonized the nationalist people across the country. “Mehbooba’s leanings towards separatists were known to all. To appease the separatists she shelved the project of building the separate townships for displaced Kashmiri Pandits. She ignored the repeated pleas of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to hold Panchayat and local bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Her close aide Naeem Akhtar, who too has been booked under PSA, had stated that no elections can be held in Kashmir till talks are held with separatists, terrorists and Pakistan,” he added. An observer said, “Everyone was aware about the fact that Mehbooba’s party won the elections in Kashmir due to the support of Jamaat-e-Islami, which was banned by the Centre after Pulwama attacks. Mehbooba and her few associates left no stone unturned to keep Kashmir on fire and played into the hands of the separatists and Pakistan. Instead of strengthening the national interests they preached separatism. Mehbooba and Naeem Akhtar being booked under PSA is no surprise. It should have been done long back.”
