Martyred soldier’s body disrespected at DH Poonch | Post-mortem delayed for hours as doctors were unavailable | | RAJESH TANDON
EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, Feb 9: In what could be described as a sheer disgrace to the supreme sacrifice and valour of a soldier, the administration of District Hospital (DH) Poonch disrespected a martyred jawan’s body as the Post-mortem was delayed for hours together due to unavailability of doctors. The jawan got martyrdom in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Poonch sector and his body was brought to District Hospital for post-mortem but it remained unattended for hours as no doctors was present at that time for the job. Sources told Early Times that due to delay in conducting post-mortem, the body of soldier could not be airlifted early for his native place. “It was shocking that no doctor was available for post-mortem when body was taken to hospital and the body remained unattended for hours. After lapse of many hours, the doctors were called, who later conducted post-mortem and handed over the body to army,” they said. The locals of area expressed strong resentment against the hospital administration for keeping the martyred jawan’s body unattended. They accused the senior doctors for remaining absent from the hospital when the situation was tense in the area due to Pak shelling. They appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to take action against hospital administration for such negligence, which showed disrespect to the martyr, who scarified his life for the country. Despite repeated calls, CMO Poonch didn’t pick up phone for his comments. |
