Training programme on ‘Advocacy Skills’ for advocates concludes

JAMMU, Feb 9: A two day training programme on ‘Advocacy Skills’ for the advocates of Jammu province, during which training sessions were held in understanding various facets of law, concluded on Sunday.
The training programme was organised by State Legal Services Authority of Jammu and Kashmir in association with Indian Institute of Legal and Professional Development. It was organised on the directions of Patron-in-Chief, State Legal Services Authority, Union Territory of J&K, Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice High Court of J&K and under the guidance of Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority, UT of J&K, Justice Rajesh Bindal,
During the training programme, the advocates were imparted training on various aspects of advocacy skills by the Resource Persons including senior advocates from Delhi. The trainees were skilled on the techniques to be adopted while conducting examination-in-chief as well as during cross-examination.
The programme was marked by sessions on case analysis, discussions on drafting as well as practical demonstrations. Emphasis was laid on the handling of witness as well as drafting as a performance skill. The trainees were actively engaged in drafting exercise whereby they were instructed and guided on drafting of a mock guardianship petition as well as its reply.
Training sessions were also held on improvement of argument skills in civil and criminal cases. Practical training was also given on the techniques to be employed while appreciation of evidence during arguments.
The day one of the training programme got impetus with the interactive session of Chief Justice of High Court of J&K, Justice Gita Mittal, with the trainees in which President High Court Bar association Jammu and office bearers of High Court Bar Association Jammu also participated.
