Excise Deptt launches special drive to catch liquor smugglers

Jammu, Mar 16: In order to check the violations under the excise act and to arrest illegal distillation of liquor, the excise department has intensified the field checkings and destroyed 100 kg Lahan in today’s raids.
As per the details available with Early Times, in continuation to the drive, surprised checks were made in some parts of Jammu Division, wherein-in one operation about 30 litres of illicit liquor and 100 Kg of lahan was destroyed in Tehsil R S Pura. The offenders seeing the raiding party abandoned the liquor/ lahan and fled from the spot. However, identification and search for the offenders is underway.
In Kathua, the ETO and his team laid surprise check on Jammu-Pathankot highway near Lakhanpur to check the vehicles for the detection of liqour/drug smuggling. Similarly in Udhampur Range, the excise officials inspected wine shops/ Bars namely Khayyam wine shop, Udhampur, Golden Traders (wine shop) Garhi Udhampur, Highway Wine Shop, Thanda Paddar, Good Morning Bar, Chopra Shop, Hotel Madhuban Bar, Udhampur, Shiv Hotel Bar and Restaurant Udhampur and laid random Nakka on Katra domail road.
As per the Commissioner Excise Rajesh Kumar Shavan, such checking will remain a daily affair of the organization and there will be zero tolerance against the violations and the drugs smuggling. He said, the department will work jointly on this issue with sister organisations so that the drug smuggling is curtailed.
He said that in furtherance of this step, he had held a comprehensive meeting with the officers of NCB (Narcortic Control Bureau) of J&K Zone, from whom he expected sharing of intelligence, trainings to the excise officials. Those who participated in these three special operations included ETO South Nipun Tickoo, ETO Eradication Narinder Singh, ETO Udhampur Rupali Vaid, ETO Kathua Range Virender Kumar along with Excise Inspectors Dr. Anil Kumar, Ashwani Sharma, Mukul Sharma, Rahul Augustum, Raj Singh, Arun Kumar, Raza Ahmad and Aman Sharma.
