Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 16: Notwithstanding Government claims to electrify every village the inhabitants of Manohar village which is at a four kilometers distance from district headquarters of Samba as well as Jammu Pathankot National Highway do not know what is power lamp as successive governments in last over 70 years of independence have failed electrify the village.
Manohar is not a far-flung and remote area of Jammu region but falls within vicinity of Samba township as well but no public representative since 1947 paid attention to provide basic amenity of life to this village.
Though the villagers are running from pillar to post knocking doors of authorities at the helm of affairs but justice still eludes them.
According to villagers a hope had generated among them after PM Narendra Modi had announce in 2015 that every remotest of remote village will be electrified by 2021 and his Government had set a goal in this regard. The joys of Msnohar villagers knew no bounds as they were jubilant that they too will get an opportunity to see a power bulb but unfortunately this announcement also proved false for these hapless people.
The villagers said the poles were laid over a year back in the area and a power transformer was also installed but during last over one and a half year the transformer was not given connection by the authorities of Power Development Department (PDD). All the pleas made by the villagers to concerned authorities have fallen on deaf ears.
The villagers including men women and children have been protesting against PDD since last year demanding power supply to the village by holding public demonstrations and dharnas but to no avail as authorities at the helm of affairs are totally unmoved.
Joginder a resident of area said we visited the concerned officers number of times but they said Department has no funds to do the remaining work. Joginder while questioning the Department said that if this remains the attitude then they can't hope of seeing the electricity in this decade too despite PM' assurance. He said PM's announcement will hardly make a difference as authorities are not going to implement them on ground.
