Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 16: The insensitive approach of the School Education Department as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has put the lives of thousands of students and many teachers at risk.
Despite high alert being sounded across the J&K UT after Coronavirus threat, board examinations for various classes in the Jammu region are on .
“The examinations of 12th class are in midway and similarly the 11th class exams too are on. It is beyond understanding that when district administrations have imposed Section 144 to prevent gatherings the JKBOSE has been conducting exams where hundreds of student appear together” sources said.
A senior teacher, while talking to Early Times informed that the exams, which are being conducted in examination halls, where hundreds of students sit together is dangerous. “There is every possibility about them getting infected. Although the threat of Coronavirus has been looming large in J&K, Education Department and JKBOSE are too casual in their approach. They have put the lives of students as well as the teachers who have been deployed for conduct of examinations at stake,” he claimed.
He further said that examinations could have been deferred for the time being for the larger interest of students and teachers but no proactive step was taken by the concerned departments. “The highhandedness of the authorities concerned can be gauged from the fact that no preventive measures have been put in place in examination centers to avoid this threat like making arrangements for sanitization,” he added.
There were other demands which were put forth by the teachers before JKBOSE, which have not been met till date including deployment of medical teams at every examination center for scanning students and teachers, proper sanitization of examination halls, providing masks to students and other staff, availability of warm and salty water for students particularly who have symptoms of cold, cough but nothing has been done by the JKBOSE.
“There is total non-coordination between Education Department and JKBOSE, which has failed to assess the seriousness of the prevailing situation. Who will be responsible if this deadly virus infects the students or teachers ?” he asked.
