Don’t turn a blind eye towards sufferings of people: Munish to officials

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 16: Editor In Chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Monday expressed dismay over authorities not providing basic amenities to the residents of Raza Colony in Raika Panchayat of Gandhi Nagar area.
Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, said, “Residents of Raza colony have been left to fend for themselves and no one seems bothered about their plight.”
He said, “The people handling the affairs of the area seem to have turned a blind eye towards their sufferings. It’s unfortunate that public servants who draw hefty salaries to serve the people are least concerned about the plight of a common man.”
The Editor Early Times said, “The transition of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory had made people believe that the system will change. But it seem nothing has changed.”
Munish said, “Officials need to come out of their dens and see for themselves how people are suffering.”
He urged the J&K UT administration to take a strong note of the problems being faced by the denizens of Raza Colony and do something to address the issues faced by them.
Meanwhile, residents of Raza Colony while talking to Early Times said that road in their area was washed away in 2016. “ We waited for three years for authorities to repair this road but no one paid any heed towards our repeated requests. We finally collected money from locals to reconstruct it,” said Marazdin a shopkeeper.
He said the residents their pleas to get the drains and roads repaired in the area fell into deaf ears. “Our ex-MLA had promised us to build the road by laying interlocking tiles.
However, his promise proved to be a hoax,” Marazdin added.
The locals Samir Ahmed Mir, Amir Khan, Bashir Hussain, Haji Mohammad Sadiq, Ghulam Hussain Mir and others said that heavy floods led to the collapse of retention wall along the nullah. “The heavy flow of the water has weakened the foundation of our houses. But the administration seems in no mood to come for our rescue,” they added.
“At some place sewerage line was laid six months ago. After laying the line the concerned agency didn’t bother to blacktop the road. Turning it into a cesspool,” residents said.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan Sabka Sath Sabka Vikash has not reached our area.
Local leaders just shy away from visiting our area. We have a lot to share with them but unfortunately, nobody comes here,” residents said.
