Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 21: The Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is demanding restoration of 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that it is a hint that the party led by the Hurriyat dove has softened its stand and is showing its inclination to join the mainstream. “Post August 5, 2019, Hurriyat dove, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has maintained silence over the critical issues and has refrained from issuing any such statement which could have pushed him behind the bars,” the analyst added.
He said, “Soon after the Kashmir centric mainstream politicians were detained, there were reports that the Hurriyat dove gave a written assurance to the Jammu and Kashmir administration that he will remain silent and won’t indulge in any such activity which could disturb the peace.”
Mirwaiz denied the reports but maintained silence and remained under house detention, while others remained under detention away from their homes.
An observer said, “Hurriyat (M) demanding restoration of 4G internet instead of preaching secessionism and advocating Pakistan’s cause is a significant development. The Government of India (GoI) tightening its noose around the separatists in Kashmir and sending a message that anyone challenging Kashmir’s accession with India will have to face the law of the land has created ripples in the separatist circles. The separatists in Kashmir during the past three decades misled people by selling dreams to them. Post August 5, 2019, the confusion created by the separatists stands cleared.”
He said, “When Hurriyat dove was questioned by the National Investigating Agency in New Delhi last year, he had told the investigators that he was not running the so-called Joint Resistance Leadership, which comprised of Hurriyat hawk, Geelani, so-called JKLF chief Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz.”
Another analyst said, “ The Hurriyat dove maintaining distance from Geelani during the past seven months and not issuing any strike calls and anti-national statements are an indication that he has accepted the status-quo and doesn’t want to invite trouble by challenging New Delhi.”
He said, “Today Mirwaiz is seeking restoration of high speed internet, tomorrow he may seek restoration of J&K’s statehood and ultimately he may decide to contest the elections, like Sajad Lone.”
The analyst said that “the separatists in Kashmir have realized that if they don’t mend their ways and still harp about Kashmir being an issue, then they may to spend rest of their lives in jails.
