Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 23: At a time when the threat of COVID-19 epidemic is looming large across the country, the inhabitants of Muthi camp have been feeling themselves at risk with non availability of medical facilities while sanitation is totally missing.
The inhabitants of Muthi Camp Jammu told Early Times said there are two phases of the Camp, Phase-I and Phase II.
The phase-I is comprised of about 256 quarters while in Phase-II there are 128 government residential quarters. A total of around 2500 souls have been putting up there in the quarters but are lacking basic facilities including health care and other essential commodities, said the locals of Muthi camp.
They said since the outbreak of Covid-19, they feel insecure here as nobody from the Medical or municipality has visited here to access the situation. Even though people are roaming here freely, despite locked down after Janta Curfew announced by PM.
“Section 144 that has been imposed across the Jammu and Kashmir, but despite that the authorities have failed to impose it here, given out the reasons, local inhabitants said that, there is nobody that could control the inhabitants or the outsiders to roam in and outside of this campus, locals alleged.
They inhabitants also said that, no medical team has visited our area, while as our area has not been properly sanitized yet, even though no masks or medical facilities were provided to us by the authorities concerned.
Government primary health centre is merely for namesake here at Migrant Camp Muthi Jammu. The medical staff deputed here was shifted to other places and the people have been left at the mercy of god, the inhabitants said.
However more worrisome is the fact that anybody can enter from the main gate that remains open 24X7. Yesterday some locals entered into our premises, despite our repeated requests they stayed here for long time.
“At a time when people are advised to maintain social distances, shops remains open, the vehicles were plying on roads here and no body from administration bothers about the safety of the locals who are living here in the adjacent areas”, locals said, adding that they were also facing scarcity of ration, medical supply, and other essential commodities.
It is pertinent to mention here that, Jammu and Kashmir administration led by the Lt Governor Girish Chander Murmu has announced complete lockdown in the union territory till March 31 in a bid to prevent spread of deadly COVID-19.
