EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 23: Amid COVID-19 scare, the district administration of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district is allegedly helping family of a slain LeT commander to encroach revenue department land in Qaimoh area of the district.
As per reports, the slain LeT Commander’s family has encroached around 2 kanals of revenue department land with the help of revenue department officials. Credible sources revealed to Early Times that the Revenue Department officials have unanimously decided to allow the family to encroach land of Tehsil Office Qaimoh.
“The building currently housing Tehsil Office was previously office of Municipal Committee Qaimoh.
After the Jammu and Kashmir Government winded up Municipal Committee Qaimoh, the land measuring six kanals of land and buildings were handed over the revenue department,” they said.
They claimed that out of six kanals of land, the family has encroached around three kanals of land with the support of Tehsildar Qaimoh.
“Block Development Officer has provided funds to the family for erecting a concrete wall around the encroached land,” they added. Sources said that the family has diverted the nallah towards the premises of Tehsil office and have added encroached revenue department land with their land.
They said that few locals mustered courage and lodged complaints against the family but the Kulgam administration didn’t act. “Instead of taking action and preserving their own land, revenue department officials conveyed to their complaints that the family laid sacrifices for Kashmir cause and can’t be stopped from encroaching the land Highly placed sources revealed that the few top officers of Kulgam administration have also expressed sympathies for the slain Lashkar Commander’s family and therefore have directed lower rungs officials including Tehsildar Qaimoh to not create any problems for the family.
“Few officers in Kulgam district administration are supporting the family because the family’s militancy connection and because of this it the family was conveyed two days back to speed up the construction work so that removing encroachment later gets difficult,” revealed sources.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Showket Aijaz expressed ignorance about the issue, however said he will look into the issue.
“I am busy as currently checking quarantine facilities in the district. I don’t know anything about it but I will check it in the morning,” he told Early Times over phone.
