SRINAGAR, Apr 3: The number of positive cases of Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 70 today as eight more persons tested positive. While five persons tested positive from the Jammu division there were three fresh COVID-19 positive cases from Kashmir valley.
Since two persons have passed away due to the virus and three persons have recovered the number of active cases in the union territory are 65. At the same time the first Corona Virus patient of Kashmir valley has fully recovered and she was discharged from the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
Reports said that in the Jammu division while three cases have come to the fore from Jammu district two other cases have surfaced from Udhampur. In the Jammu district the positive cases have been reported from the family of the doctor who tested positive some days back. In the Kashmir valley one case each has been reported from Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama districts.
The daily media bulletin issued by the government today said that eight new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), five from Jammu division and three from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 70.
The bulletin said that out of 70 positive cases, 65 are active positive, three have recovered and two have died. Regarding their location 53 are from Kashmir division and 17 from Jammu division. The bulletin informed that the first COVID-19 positive case from Kashmir division has fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.
“Furthermore, till date 17,677 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 10694 persons in home quarantine including in facilities operated by government, 622 in Hospital Quarantine, 65 in hospital isolation and 4109 under home surveillance,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that 2187 persons have completed their 28 days surveillance period. It said that till date 1084 samples have been sent for testing of which 1010 have tested as negative, 70 positive and four reports are awaited till April 2, 2020.
According to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, people are advised to remain calm and not to panic as the prevention, containment and management of COVID-19 in the UT are being monitored at the highest level and necessary action to protect and safeguard the lives of people have been taken by the Government.
People have been requested to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. Surveillance teams are conducting house to house contact tracing of positive cases, people are requested to cooperate with the team members.
The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly by calling on Covid-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed.
In the meantime, 324 more persons who were shifted into administrative quarantine upon their return to Srinagar two weeks ago were discharged today after successfully completing their 14-day quarantine period. All these persons put under quarantine in well-equipped hotels and government accommodations had returned from different overseas countries with most of them having returned from Bangladesh.
These persons belonging to different districts of Kashmir were entrusted to their respective district headquarters in SRTC busses the Srinagar administration had arranged for their convenience. Srinagar residents in the group were all ferried home or entrusted to their families. Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Syed Haneef Balkhi who has been designated as overall in-charge of quarantine facilities established in the district oversaw their discharge and their transportation.
The group was under thorough medical supervision throughout their quarantine period and was discharged after clearance from doctors. It is notable that there were around 1900 persons who had been put under administrative quarantine in Srinagar after their return mostly from overseas countries.
While around 500 persons are completing their quarantine and will be discharged tomorrow all the overseas-return persons in administrative quarantine in the district will complete their quarantine period by the end of this week and will be sent home as they complete it.
