Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 2: Administration and the health department has abandoned us, no one is taking care of us, my mother in law a heart patient and the diabetic is inside the home and an ambulance has reached us to pick us (me, my father-in-law and the domestic help) as we have been tested positive for Coronovirus, said wife of the medico from Microbiology Department of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, who was tested positive on 29 March.
Negligence on the part of Health Department and the Administration can be gauged from the fact that it took three days to administration to conduct test of family members of the doctor who was tested positive on 29 March. She alleged that if the samples for test would have been collected on time, the treatment for the same would have been initiated timely.
“The health department has sent an ambulance to take us hospital, but no one is here after us to take care of my mother-in-law who is suffering with multiple diseases”, said the crying wife of medico while talking to media persons at her home on late Wednesday night.
“My husband was on duty when he came in contact with infected paitent. Four out of five members of our family including domestic help tested positive for Corona virus. It is very unfortunate, no one took it seriously when my husband tested positive, we spent three days in quarantine and our blood samples taken after three days”, she said, adding that she was informed by her husband who is under treatment that three more members of our family are positive.
Though “it was duty of administration to respond immediately, but they wasted time, it exposes preparation of health department that medical staff engaged to Corona cases without protective gears”, she said. Meanwhile sources informed that the health department immediately conducted test of colleagues of the medico who tested positive as well as the PSO deployed with the father of medico, a retired IPS officer.
“Senior doctors (mostly HoD) of various departments of the GMC are skipping duties demoralizing the subordinate staff to fight the deadly virus. People with the symptoms are afraid to come to the hospitals and also hiding themselves from administration due to the fear of forced quarantine and the social stigma attached to it. The inhumanly treatment with the suspected cases is preventing them to voluntarily disclose their symptoms”, said an internal source. Around the world, 49,242 deaths fatalities have been reported worldwide since December while the total number of positive cases has gone up around 10 lac, when the COVID-19 emerged in China and spread world over.
Principal Secretary and Spokesperson to J&K Rohit Kansal could not be connected for his comment over the allegations leveled by the family of medico.
