Black marketing of Govt ration goes on unabated in Vijaypur
‘Philanthropists’ purchasing ration on higher rates to distribute among poor

VIJAYPUR, Apr 10: In what could be described as weird, some government ration dealers of Vijaypur tehsil have reportedly doing black marketing of ration to many so-called social workers, who have been purchasing ration on exorbitant rates to distribute the same among poor during lockdown due to COVID-19.
Sources told Early Times that it has been found that some panchayat representatives have been purchasing ration from government ration dealers in connivance with storekeepers to distribute among the needy to show their generosity.
Taking advantage of this crisis, some government rations dealers have been minting money by selling ration to social workers, panchayat representatives, which is totally inadmissible as per rules but administration has been watching this illegal activity silently, they alleged. “At a time when entire country has been fighting against COVID-19 collectively but some corrupt ration dealers and officials have been taking benefit of this crisis and filling their coffers,” they said that most of such cases were reported from border villages of the tehsil.
“If ration is being black marketed like this, then what will happen to other people, who avail monthly ration on controlled prices,” they regretted.
When contacted, the TSO Vijaypur Sandeep Singh Jamwal, said nobody can purchase ration apart from registered beneficiary. Neither any ration dealer nor any official can sell ration to panchayat representative or social workers for free distribution in these times. “I have received some complaints about it and have instructed all ration dealers not to indulge in such practices. Action will be taken against the violators,” TSO Viajaypur said.
Meanwhile, TSO Ramgarh Rashpal said that department has ensured that ration will be distributed among the beneficiaries only.
