4/13/2020 8:45:26 PM
Early Times Report

Anantnag, Apr 13: In past two weeks, the department of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir has installed over twenty (20) decontamination chambers across Kashmir to ensure safety of those people visiting hospitals and COVID centers.
The hospitals and COVID centers where these were installed include Government Medical College Anantnag, Baramullah and district hospitals of Kulgam, Kupwara, Shopain, Pulwama, Sopore, Budgam, Ganderbal and Bandipora.
In addition to this, the department has also installed decontamination chambers in Sub-District Hospitals of Bijbehara, Aishmuqam, Pampore, Dooru and Tral.
Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir, Reyaz Ahmad Wani (KAS) told Early Times that they have so far installed twenty decontamination chambers across Kashmir and covered all major hospitals.
“Majority of the hospitals has been covered and the remaining sub-district hospitals will be covered in next few days,” he said.
Wani said that after covering hospitals, his department will ensure to install decontamination chambers at major public places including administrative headquarters.
“It doesn’t cost much. We are now planning to install these decontamination chambers at administrative headquarters so that the visitors and importunately government employees who are playing a crucial role during these times remain safe,” he said.
The installation of decontamination chambers is aimed at preventing spread of COVID-19 into and out of these hospitals, he added.
Requesting people to stay at home and fallow the advisories issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Government, Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir said that his department has procured 2000 liters of Sodium hypochlorite for disinfecting red zones falling under the jurisdiction of municipalities.
He said that they have made enough arrangements for keeping their men safe and secure during COVID19 crises. “We are taking care of our sanitation workers. They are frontline workers who risk their lives to keep our cities and town clean. We have procured safety gears for them and whatever is required for their safety will be done,” Wani said, while hailing their contribution during difficult times.
Important to mention here, a unit of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has designed this full-body disinfection chamber for healthcare workers who are in the forefront of battle against coronavirus.
The Vehicle Research and Development Establishment, a DRDO laboratory at Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, had developed it.
The walk-through enclosure is a portable system equipped with sanitizer and soap dispenser. “The decontamination is started using a foot pedal at the entry. On entering the chamber, anelectrically operated pump creates a disinfectant mist of hyposodium chloride for disinfecting,” the DRDO had said in a press statement.
