Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Apr 13: There seems to be no let up in Corona Virus cases in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir as 25 more persons tested positive for the Virus today. As a result the total positive cases of Corona Virus have reached 270.
However, at the same time there is some positive news as 10 COVID-19 patients have recovered fully and they have been discharged from the hospitals in the Kashmir and Jammu divisions respectively. As on date there are 250 active cases in the union territory as 16 persons have recovered and four have died.
All the fresh cases today were reported from the Kashmir with Srinagar accounting for 12 cases followed by nine cases reported from Bandipora district in North Kashmir. North Kashmir's Baramulla district recorded three fresh cases with South Kashmir Kulgam district recording one case.
The fresh cases reported from Srinagar are not of locals but of non-locals who belong to different parts of country. The Jammu & Kashmir government informed through the media bulletin that 25 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), all from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 270.
"Out of 270 positive cases, 250 are active positive, 16 have recovered and four have died. Furthermore, till date 53,679 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which includes 8,581 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 354 in Hospital Quarantine, 250 in hospital isolation and 30,634 under home surveillance," said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that besides 13,856 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. Moreover 10 more patients have recovered today, four are from Kashmir division (2 SKIMS Soura, 2 JLNM Srinagar) & six from Jammu division (CD Hospital Jammu). The bulletin said that 3,795 samples have tested as negative till April 13, 2020.
The Bulletin said that Srinagar has 70 positive cases wherein 66 are active positive, three recovered and one has died, Bandipora 51 positive cases with 47 active positive, three recovered and one died, Baramulla 40 positive cases with 39 active positive, one died, Budgam 11 positive cases all of whom are active positive, Pulwama three positive cases where two are active positive, one recovered.
The bulletin said that Shopian and Kupwara with 14 and 23 positive cases respectively and all are active positive and Ganderbal and Kulgam with five positive cases each respectively all of whom are active positive. Similarly, Jammu has 21 positive cases of whom 18 are active positive and three have recovered, Udhampur 19 positive cases of which 14 are active positive, four recovered and one died, while as Rajouri has three positive cases of whom two are active positive with one recovery; Samba district has four positive cases which are all active positive. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only one positive case which has recovered.
Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, the general public has been urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. Due to changes in the bodies and immune systems of women during pregnancy, the advisory informed that they can be badly affected by some respiratory infections.
"It is therefore important that they take precautions to protect themselves against COVID-19, and report possible symptoms (including fever, cough or difficulty breathing) to their healthcare provider. Pregnant women and women who have recently delivered including those affected by COVID-19 should attend their routine antenatal & postnatal appointments."
The advisory stressed on personal hygiene, by way of frequent hand washing with soap & water; and observing coughing & sneezing etiquettes and wearing mask or face cover while moving out of home. People are advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.
In the meantime, two minor girls, who had tested positive last month for the novel Corona Virus, have recovered and were discharged from JLNM Hospital in Srinagar. "Two tests were conducted on each girl in a span of 24 hours. Both came negative after which they were discharged from the hospital today," Dr. Tabasum, Deputy Medical Superintendent, JLNM Hospital.
Dr. Tabasum said the girls who had contracted the deadly virus from their grandfather with travel history to Saudi Arabia, were kept in isolation since they were admitted last month. "We allotted a separate ward to the girls and also counseled them a lot. We told them not to touch surfaces. In order to prevent any mental trauma, we gave them toys, crayons and drawing sheets for distraction," she said.
Dr Tabasum said the mother of the girls had tested negative but she spent the past more than two weeks with them at the hospital. The JLNM Hospital Deputy Superintendent said the mother was also tested before being discharged from the hospital. The father of the girls has also tested negative. The girls will now spent 14 days in home quarantine.
