SPO martyred, another injured in terrorist attack

JAMMU, Apr 13: A year after the killing of RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO Rajinder Kumar, the terrorists again struck in Kishtwar today when they killed a SPO and injuring another before they decamped with the weapon of the deceased.
As per the details available with Early Times, Dachhan in Kishtwar District once again came to lime light following the fresh terror attack today at the time when police and administration in Kishtwar District were battling with COVID 19 pandemic.
In the attack, one SPO got martyred and another suffered grievous injuries when they were attacked while on patrolling duty at upper area of Tander Dachhan falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Dachhan in the mountainous district of Kishtwar.
The reports revealed that SPOs namely Pashid Iqbal No 1328/SPO, resident of Palmar and Vishal Singh No 1342/ SPO, resident of Paddar, both posted at SOG Police Post Tander, Dachhan had gone to the upper area of Tander for patrolling and while on duty, they were attacked by the accused identified by the senior police officials as Basharat Hussain, son of Ghulam Qadir Gainoo and Ashiq Hussain, son of Bashir Ahmed both residents of village Tander, Dachhan resulting in the martyrdom of SPO Pashid Iqbal and serious injuries to SPO Vishal Singh. Both the attackers after committing the crime fled from spot.
The senior officials told the Early Times that one of the attackers Ashiq Hussain was involved in case FIR No 06/2018 U/S 363, 376 RPC of P/S Dachhan and was out on bail for some 20 days.
The senior officials said that the militants attacked the cops with sharp edged axe resulting into the death of one SPO due to loss of excessive blood.
As soon as the incident took place, Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh along with DIG Doda-Kishtwar range Abdul Jabbar reached Kishtwar and pressed a chopper into service to shift the injured cop.
The senior officials discussed various security measures with SSP Kishtwar Dr Harmeet Singh Mehta.
Following the incident, search operation has been launched in Tander area by the SOG and the Army to nab the attackers.
It is in place to mention here that Dachhan has witnessed spike in terror related incidents in recent times as the terrorists who were involved in killing of RSS leader and his PSO were also from this part of the district. Moreover, half a dozen militants active in Kishtwar district are hiding in safe havens in Marwah and Dachhan belt.
Meanwhile, the senior police officials suspect the hand of Hizb militant outfit behind today's terror incident adding that the investigation is going on which will further expose the chain behind today's incident.
"It could be more than two persons. We have so far identified only two persons," senior officer said adding that full-fledged inquiry has been initiated into this fresh incident.
