Army pays tribute to soldier who slipped to death near LoC in Uri

Srinagar, Apr 20: The Army, on Monday, paid rich tributes to a soldier, who died after slipping from a mountain near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
An Army official said that a soldier and a porter slipped from a snow-clad mountain near a forward post at LoC in Boniyar, Uri on Saturday. “After strenuous efforts, the body of the 35-year-old soldier, identified as NK Uttam Singh, was recovered while the porter was rescued in critical condition,” he said.
He said that the gallant soldier, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty at Uri Sector, was on Monday paid a befitting tribute by the Army in a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment.
“General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps (Chinar Corps), Lt Gen BS Raju and all ranks paid homage to the soldiers on behalf of a proud nation,” he said, adding representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs.
He said that the mortal remains of the martyr would be flown for last rites to his native places, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours.
